having to replace a water heater is an experience no one wants to go through, but KC Water Heaters made our experience more at ease and an educational one. They are very knowledgeable and were willing to share their knowledge. They took the time to explain and answered our questions and concern. The installer was professional, thorough and performed quality work. Trust is also a big thing for us, and we can see that he is a man of integrity. Although we didn't give a five star for punctuality, we understand that spending quality time performing a job is more important. not only that, he was able to squeeze our job in last minute and still took his time to do it right. Thank you!

Chase was great! He was very professional, knowledgeable (actually certified plumbing and gas making uniquely qualified for gas water heaters). He is also very particular about his work and takes great pride in quality of work and understands the importance of reputation and customer satisfaction! He actually came back a couple days later because he wanted venting of heater to "look better"! It's this attention to detail that I really appreciated. I highly recommend Chase!!

He installed a bigger flue than we had and the area where he worked was clean and neat when he left-- if anyone needs a new hot water heater this is the place to go!! Couldn't be more pleased!

Chase with KC Water Heater advised us on how to best update our current system of water heaters, outdated ventilation, water pressure values, and more. The technical information was explained in a way we could easily understand and because it's his company he has a vested interest in customer retention. We'd definitely recommend KC Water Heaters to friends and family.

Chase does a very good job. He cleaned up the area, he did a good workmanlike job of soldering and installation. He replaced water and gas valves, at no charge, and he corrected improper vent installation that the prior installer (AB May) had done in 2002. I would highly recommend him.

Chase Thompson was very responsive to our questions about water heaters, and when we decided to install a new water heater, Chase was able to meet our requested service installation date and time. I would highly recommend Chase to anyone needing water heater repairs or installation of a new water heater. Chase is very knowledgeable, and after discussing different brands of water heaters and potential installation options, Chase installed a new AO Smith water heater that will meet our demands in a very cost effective manner. The quality of installation was outstanding, and I would highly recommend Chase and KC Water Heater.

Best service experience I ever had at my house. Replaced water heater in matter of hours and I was back in business. This guy knows his stuff and does what's right for the situation. Doesn't try to bleed everything out of you like most service repairmen. He looked at my house and knew exactly what was needed and went over all the options with me. Chase was very knowledgeable. He did NOT try to sell me things I didn't need. Knowing that I plan to only be in the house 2 more years, he indicated the water pressure valve would not be issue in that short time but would replace it if was staying 10 years. I really appreciate the honesty. He was very careful to not leave a mess even though it is a difficult job. Highly recommend this company.

He stays on top of his industry and his craft and additional training to make sure he is the expert in his field. If you want the best experience with the best water heater guy in the industry with the best price in town then KC Water Heater and Chase are the folks you want to use! Chase gets our highest kudos for great service! We called for help in the afternoon, he said he could come the next morning at ten and he did. He was prepared to help with much more than a simple water heater installation, replaced several failed parts in our plumbing system, and helped us to understand how to care for those parts going forward. He made no effort to upsell us, but was ready to fix what we asked for. Great job!

Excellent experience. Was prompt, kept to schedule and called ahead to let me know when he would arrive. Very clean, made no mess taking old unit out. Very professional. I had him replace the PRV and main shutoff which solved our pressure and decreased flow problems we were having with multiple taps open. He replaced the main valve with a good quality ball valve and included a much stronger flare 90 instead of just 'patching' in the new valve in-line. Re-piped the new unit, included a new ball valve on the supply instead of the old gate valve and even replaced the old needle valve going to the humidifier, installing a copper T and a separate supply valve for the humidifier instead of just repiercing the old needle valve. No up-selling to more expensive models, just couldn't be more satisfied with the service.

Chase provided me an accurate quote for a new water heater and installation over the phone, then arrived promptly the next day ready to install. He was very thorough and did a great job explaining the process with me as he worked. He completed the job in around two hours, and did an excellent job cleaning up afterwards. I have struggled to find reliable plumbing service in town that isn't interesting in upselling the customer at every turn, and I finally found a quality business in KC Water Heaters. Great pricing on services and installation and prompt and polite service.

Chase, did a very good job taking out the old hot water heater and installing the new. He was very friendly and efficient in his job. I asked several questions while he was here that had nothing to do with the job he was doing. He answered my questions and he was very knowledgeable. After he left I went down and looked at the job he did and the area around the hot water heater was cleaner than what he walked into. One thing I didn't mention, he put covers over his boots before he came into the house. If you need a hot water heater call Chase you will not regret it.

I am satisfied with the experience and knowledge that Chase Thompson has about water heaters. Chase answered all my questions and took the time to make sure that I understood. If I did not, he did not hesitate to explain things in a way that would allow me to comprehend the information. I did not realize that it had been 20 years since the purchase and installation of the old water heater. I am satisfied with the brand name of A. O. Smith, and I was able to replace the old one with a new A. O. Smith Water Heater. The only change I made was I increased the size from 40 gallons to 50 gallons. My old water heater always ran out of hot water. Especially, if anyone took a bath and not a shower.

Chase was on time for the appointment, and did an expert level job on the install. I am a reasonably handy guy, but while sitting on a bucket watching Chase and chatting, I was glad that I had a professional do the installation. He had good solid arguments to support his recommendation for a new water heater based on stats that he has accumulated from direct experience.

If you choose to use KC Water Heaters, you won't regret your decision. Excellent quality work, integrity, honest and reasonable prices describes my experience with Chase and KC Water Heaters. Although our 19 year old A. O. Smith water heater still worked, the amount of hot water had lessened and the sediment had built up considerably, so it was only a matter of time before it would go out. We replaced it with another A. O. Smith and Chase installed it efficiently and met our expectations with his attention to detail. I researched companies extensively before choosing KC Water Heaters and am so glad to find a company in which I feel comfortable recommending without hesitation.

My old water heater broken down on a Saturday night. I called multiple places on Sunday morning, and Chase was one of the few who would offer me a replacement estimate over the phone with several options. Chase gladly came over on the same afternoon (still Sunday), gave me several options, and suggested where to spend more money on and where to cut cost,. We decided to listen to his advice by spending a little bit more money on a higher efficiency water heater. He also went through step by step on how to check water pressure and maintain our new water heater. In the end, Chase was the only person who offered to replace my water heater on the same day, and his price is the best I could find around town. Chase is awesome and I highly recommend KC Water Heaters.

I asked Chase to install a different A O Smith water heater than he normally used. He checked, gave me a price and he called when he obtained the water heater. Arrived ot time, started the process and uncrating the new water heater, found it damaged and we did not install. He ordered another and upon receiving it, called, and installed. We chatted as he worked and I gained some knowledge about water heaters and plumbing. Work was completed in a professional, timely manner, Would strongly recommend K.C. Water Heaters, Chase Thompson.

When you are no longer able to enjoy hot water you look for someone to replace your old broken down water heater. Since, I live in Independence, MO I contacted a local water heater replacement business. When I told them the product that I was wanting to replace my old water heater with, they told that it would be a week before they would receive a product to replace my old water heater; this was definitely unacceptable. So, the next business that came up was KC Water Heaters and it showed that they worked in the Independence, MO area. I contacted KC Water Heaters and was given a couple of options to have them come out to replace my old water heater. Am I ever glad that I contacted KC Water Heaters, their prices were right in the range I was comfortable with and I could not have asked for a better person to hook up with than Chase Thompson. He was very knowledgeable and efficient in getting my new water heater installed. If you are ever in need of a new hot water heater, KC Water Heaters and Chase Thompson are the ones to call, you will not be disappointed. Especially if you want to take a hot shower within a couple of days of having your water heater go out on you. I highly recommend KC Water Heaters/Chase Thompson to come out to your residence or business to replace your old broken down water heaters.

Chase took the time to explain what I needed in my home to give me satisfactory hot water supply. He was very knowledgable. He answered my hunderd plus questions-patiently. He installed my water heater in a very organized and systematic method. Chase went way above and beyond to keep his work environment and my home tidy. He performed work that I know most plumbers would have taken short cut around (replacing cheap humidifier saddle valve with a 1/4 turn valve, using cast iron for the gas line...) Over the years, I have made a great effort to educate myself on the workings of my home. I dread having anyone do work on my home because I always feel short changed or cheated. Working with Chase (KC water heaters) is the most impressive service experience I have ever had in my 23 years of home ownership.

The old water heater was a typical builder grade install.

The old AO Smith water heater had pilot issues which can be attributed to the incorrect venting installation.
PRV installed, expansion tank, gas line rerouted and the flue corrected.

The old water heater was installed when the house was built. For 21 years the water heater backdrafted into the house. I was told that the previous owner was a licensed plumber.
A new PRV was installed along with thermal expansion tank. The venting was replaced with 4" and the slope was corrected. The backdrafting issue was a makeup air issue and was resolved during the install.
This is a perfect example of why a Water Softener is strongly discouraged. The water softener caused the tank to fail in only about 3 years. The other tank was close to 15 years so apparently the new tanks have more of a conflict with the soft water.
Two new Bradford White water heaters installed in parallel. Two new expansion tanks installed and the venting totally redone.
The old Kenmore water heater had a failed gas valve and the TP line was dripping. The venting was incredibly dangerous, there were holes in the flue and it appeared a wall was built before the house was sold to hide the bad venting.
The venting for the furnace and water heater was totally replaced. The single wall pipe was replaced with double wall. The orientation of the pipe was redone and the water pressure was also addressed. New PRV, expansion tank, and venting on this install.
The old water heater had been flooded from a failed sump pump and clogged floor drain.
A new PRV installed along with 4" vent and expansion tank. The vent for the furnace was also replaced and the new tank was placed on a water heater stand.
The old water heater had an improper venting configuration. The water pressure was also much higher than it was suppose to be. The vent for the water heater went from 6" to 3" which is against code.
The gas line was updated with a new shutoff and drip leg and also hard piped. The vent was replaced to 4" and the old wye from the furnace was removed. There was also a 1' rise off the top of the tank that was added. A new PRV and thermal expansion tank was also installed.
The old water heater was purchased at Home Depot and installed by the Homeowner. The tank had backdrafted from the first day it was installed. It took about 6 years of the tank drafting into the house before the pilot finally started to have issues.
A new water heater was installed along with new venting. There was also a negative pressure issue that was identified and resolved. This is a great example of why you should always hire a licensed professional to install a gas water heater.
This water heater was only 8 years old when the tank started to leak from the bottom.
A thermal expansion tank was installed for the new water heater. The house PRV was also bad which caused high water pressure. A new PRV was installed along with the Bradford White water heater.
The GCV tank that failed was newer than the other AO Smith tank on the right. The GCV tanks seem to be of lower quality and lighter in weight.
New 50,000 BTU High recovery Bradford White tank installed and thermal expansion tank put in.

The old Bradford White water heater lasted nearly 20 years withstanding high water pressure and a failed PRV for several. The vent was undersized for a 40,000 BTU water heater and signs of backdrafting were evident.
New Bradford White high recovery model installed. PRV was also installed and expansion tank was set to match water pressure.

The old water heater was a 12 yr warranty tank that failed after 7 years. Installed by lowes it would not have been eligible for a warranty due to fitting failure from the materials used to install the tank.

Another GCV with a less than average tank life. There was also a water softener installed which also contributed to its early failure. Water pressure was also high due to a bad PRV.
New tank installed along with PRV, vent, and expansion tank.
Old tank had started to leak from the bottom. This was a new build that did not comply with the fuel gas code for a 40,000 BTU water heater.
New water heater installed, new PRV, and expanson tank. Vent was also replaced for the water heater and 4" installed.
The old water heater had clear signs of backdrafting which was likely caused by a 3" flue where a 4" flue should have been installed.
New high recovery water heater installed along with 4" vent connector and 4" flue. Thermal expansion tank installed along with new ice maker stop and the flex gas line was replaced with iron pipe. A new PRV was also installed and the pressure set to 70 psi as was the expansion tank.
The old water heater was in the perfect storm for tank failure. The water softener had the biggest impact on the tank failure as much rust was present. The draft diverter was also not secured resulting in improper venting of flue gases. The flue was redone and the new tank installed.
New flue installed and thermal expansion tank put in. The water softener was bypassed and a PRV was installed.
A second water heater was added after the home was built. The plumber did not correctly size the flue for the second tank. An additional flue was ran to support the second tank.
New flue ran for second tank and the T was removed. A connector rise was also added to the new installation to prevent any additional backdrafting. The rust on the first tank are an indicator of backdrafting.
The old water heater was installed as a second tank. The plumber that put it in did not install the correct size flue and backdrafting had occurred. Also neglected to install a thermal expansion tank.
A 5x4x4 vent connector was added and a 4x3x3 Y was added as well as a new flue for both water heaters. A thermal expansion tank was also installed along with a new PRV. The water pressure was 106 psi before the new PRV was installed.
The old water heater was only about 10 years old and had been leaking from the bottom of the tank. Probably would have lasted longer if the softener was not installed.
New thermal expansion tank installed and set to 75 psi. Water pressure set to 73 psi. Flue was corrected and section was replaced.

The old water heater was too tall for this application and there was no drip leg on the gas line.
New AO Smith 40 gallon short gas water heater installed.
Water heater started to leak after 17 years. The water heater was in a harsh environment due to a bad PRV that was also 17 years old. The PRV was actually causing higher water pressure in the house than the city pressure.
The water pressure from the city was only 70 psi. The PRV was removed and the house was setup to be on an open loop system. Thermal expansion tank is not required on the open loop system.

The old tank had finally started to leak from the bottom after 18 years of reliable service. The water heater was still producing hot water when it started to leak.
A new PRV was installed along with an AO Smith GCR 50 gallon water heater. The main shutoff was also bad and would not allow the water to shut off all the way or for full water volume into the house. A new gas and water shutoff was installed along with a thermal expansion tank. The flue was also redone to allow for more rise off the top of the water heater.

The old water heater had been installed improperly back in 2009 and did not have proper slope. The home inspector caught the negative slope and recommended that the water heater be replaced. The basement also flooded and caused the pilot to go out on the water heater, damaging the burner.
A new AO Smith short 40 gallon was installed. The tank was elevated off the floor and a solid wood platform was used to ensure that intake did not bypass the air filter. The flue was also redone all the way back to the furnace in order to allow for more slope. A new shutoff was installed for both the gas and water.

This tank had multiple issues. The most pressing was a gas leak that was verified by the gas company. It was determined that the gas valve was emitting gas into the house. The tank also seemed to be leaking water as the shell was wet. The gas connector was longer than was was allowed and no drip leg was installed. There may have been a water softener that was installed for the early stages of this water heaters lifecycle.
New AO Smith tank installed and elevated off the basement floor. The water pressure was right at 80 and no PRV was present. The gas line was corrected and a drip leg was added.

The old water heater was a Rheem that made it 16 years before leaking on the bottom of the tank. The PRV had failed in this home and the water pressure was above 80 psi.
New AO Smith installed along with new PRV and thermal expansion tank. The valve for the humidifier was also replaced.
The old Bradford White water heater was just over 10 years old and had started to leak from the bottom. These conditions should have allowed for a longer lifespan that it did.
New AO Smith installed. Opening in chimney was capped off. Most difficult part about this install was getting the tanks down the small stairway in this older home.

These water heaters installed in a parallel setup had worked well for 15 years which is pretty good for multiple tanks in one house. The tank on the right had started to leak.
Owner decided that two tanks was overkill and the old gas and flue were capped off. By going to a single tank they will save around $5,000 over the life of the water heater.

Another backdrafting water heater in Western Shawnee. The top of the tank was a sign that there was low levels of backdrafting. The backdrafting is worse in these homes when the vents for the basement are left closed and air cannot be brought down into the house. Aside from the tank leaking there was a separate plumbing leak in another part of the house a few weeks prior. The water pressure was checked and initially ready 60 psi. With the tank off the water pressure slowly crept up beyond 80 which indicated a bad PRV.
The PRV was replaced as well as the thermal expansion tank. The PRV was also moved up above the spigot to allow the ability to monitor the incoming water pressure. New shutoff installed for water heater and humidifier.
The old Bradford White water heater had been backdrafting for quite some time due to a lack of combustion louvers installed when the basement was finished. This likely attributed to the corrosion on the top of the tank which prompted the replacement.
Flue was redone to increase the ability to draw. The PRV was also replaced and the humidifier valve was replaced with a compression stop.
This old AO Smith water heater was installed new with the house. Despite being under high water pressure the issue was actually related to a backdrafting water heater. We determined that a damper that controls the vent for the basement was causing negative pressure. We were able to identify the issue and correct the problem. A backdrafting water heater will have pilot issues and often shutdown. Due to the age of the tank it needed to be replaced.
The flue was redone to improve the draw. There was also a new PRV installed along with a thermal expansion tank. New shutoff for the poly line feeding the humidifier was also replaced. The flex gas supply line was replaced with iron pipe.

Once again here is a 12 year warranty tank that lasted less than the overall average lifespan for a water heater. This is a particularly poor showing given the water pressure was only 75 and the plumbing was on an open loop. This water heater also had been repaired during its lifetime. Look at the other Rheem water heaters and you will see several 6 year tanks that outlasted this extended warranty unit.
New AO Smith water heater installed along with new main shutoff and replaced PRV. The flue was also replaced due to calcification and a thin wall. The piping was also shortened and replaced where corrosion was present.
We did a poor job of showing the failed expansion tank in the before picture. It was on there and like almost every other expansion tank we come across it was full of water. The PRV had failed which allowed 100 psi of water pressure. The main shutoff valve was also leaking. This tank actually had issues with the pilot, the thermal fuse blew which was likely due to a faulty gas valve. Due to the age of the tank it was replaced instead of repaired.
New main shutoff installed, new thermal expansion tank which was also moved to the cold side, and the PRV was replaced.
This old Bradford White held up pretty well considering the water pressure was about 100 psi. There was no thermal expansion tank and the issue was actually with the gas valve, not a leaking tank.
New PRV installed to reduce water pressure down to 75 psi. AO Smith water heater installed and the saddle valves for the humidifier and fridge were replaced.
The old water heater was actually leaking from the drain valve and tp valve. The water pressure was 84 psi and the house was on an open loop system.
The new water heater was installed even though the old tank could have been repaired it made more sense to just install a new tank.
The old 40 gallon Bradford White on the left started to leak from the bottom of the tank even though it was one year newer than the tank on the right. Generally the second tank will leak sooner than the first when installed in series. The water pressure was 100 psi and the PRV may have been restricting backflow.
New AO Smith installed in place of the two tanks. The PRV was also bad and was replaced during the water heater install. There was also a thermal expansion tank installed.
The old water heater was having issues with the pilot assembly and gas valve. The tank had already been repaired however it was not repair with the proper parts. The water pressure was just over 80 psi but with an open loop and over 20 years on the tank without a leak they opted to keep the system free of a PRV and thermal expansion tank.
New AO Smith water heater installed and section of the flue replaced. The tank that we originally planned to install had a small dent in the side so we pulled another tank off the truck and swapped it out. One of the advantages to having 4-5 tanks on the truck at all times.

The old water heater was 22 years old and leaking slowly from the bottom of the tank. The water heater was under 96 lbs of water pressure and was on a closed system. The water pressure was high due to the failed PRV. Other water pressure readings in the neighborhood show that the water pressure was not always that high.
AO Smith water heater installed along with thermal expansion tank and new PRV. The line for the humidifier was also replaced with a full brass body compression valve which was also lead free. The water pressure was set to 75 psi and the expansion tank was also set to 75 psi.

The old water heater was undersized for the home and was turned all the way up. Shortly after turning up the temperature in this 18 year old AO Smith water the pilot went out and they lost hot water.
A new water heater was installed and a thermal expansion tank was installed. The water pressure from WaterOne was 130 psi and the PRV reduced it down to 75. This brings the water pressure in the house up to 130 when the tank is heating water. In this environment a thermal expansion tank is recommended. Also installed new shutoff valves and replaced the saddle valve.
The old AO Smith water heater was not leaking, however the dip tube had broken off inside the tank which significantly reduced the hot water production. The anode rod in the water heater manufactured at this time were a common problem. Usually it takes several minutes for the water heater to kick on after you start using hot water.
New AO Smith installed along with thermal expansion tank and new PRV. The new PRV significantly increased the water pressure inside the home.
The old water had a very slow leak from the bottom of the tank after only 10 years. The water pressure was checked and it was 100 psi.
A new PRV was installed to lower the water pressure to 75 psi, thus creating a closed system. A thermal expansion tank was installed on the new water heater. The main shutoff was also replaced as the old valve did not completely shutoff the water.

The existing water heater was installed 10 years prior due to an unsafe flue. This power vent model actually wasn't installed correctly. Too large of a vent was used and the slope went in the wrong direction. This likely attributed to the blower failure within the first 6 years which was covered under warranty, even though it was an installation issue. The second issue was determined to be a bad gas valve. Due to the age, the tank was replaced instead of repaired.
The water pressure was 100 psi due to a failed PRV. The vent for the blower was also replaced with 2" and restrictor plates were used to prevent future problems. The slope for the flue was also redone.
The old water heater had an improper connection on the flue. Instead of a 5x4 Y, the flue was cut and the water heater vent was shoved into the opening. The expansion tank on this water heater had also failed and was full of water.
New thermal expansion tank installed along with AO Smith hot water heater.

This house was under some harsh conditions which most certainly attributed to the short lifespan of this Bradford White water heater. The house was built with a check valve in the water meter which keeps water from moving out of the house and causes water pressure surges. There was also a water softener installed which will also shorten the life of a water heater. The anode rod of this water heater was replaced when the unit was about 6 years old which didn't seem to have much impact on increasing the lifespan.
New AO Smith water heater installed. Flue was redone to improve drafting. Homeowner was also advised to contact water company to request for the check valve to be removed from the water heater.

The old water heater had been condensing around the flue for it's entire life which was less than 10 years. A section of the flue had already been replaced. This is likely due to the HVAC system being improperly designed. This is also the likely cause of the gas valve failure on this State water heater.
New AO Smith GCR model installed in place of the State Select. Thermal expansion tank was also installed on this closed loop system.

Both of these water heaters had a long life despite being under 100 psi of water pressure. This Leawood neighborhood has likely had a pressure increase in the past year or two.
We discussed the needs with the client and decided that they would be better off with only one 50 gallon tank opposed to two separate tanks. Upon installing the new water heater we found a baseball size hole in the backside of the flue that was not visible unless the flue was taken apart. These water heaters were almost certainly dumping Carbon Monoxide inside of this families home. We replaced the entire section of flue and installed a PRV.

This water heater was under 100 psi of water pressure due to a failed Pressure Reducing Valve. Despite the high water pressure the tank did not ever leak. The owner of the tank decided that after 16 years it was time to get the tank replaced and have everything serviced.
The Pressure Reducing Valve was replaced and the water pressure was set to 75 psi. An expansion tank is not technically required in Leawood, but this neighborhood had a water pressure of 100 psi. Meaning that without a thermal expansion tank your water pressure would rise to 100 psi when the tank heats up. The expansion tank is a buffer to absorb the additional pressure that is created from the increase in water temperature.
