A new PRV was installed to lower the water pressure to 75 psi, thus creating a closed system. A thermal expansion tank was installed on the new water heater. The main shutoff was also replaced as the old valve did not completely shutoff the water.

Barely enough room to install a thermal expansion tank behind the full port ball valve. You should always replace old valves with brass free fittings.

New AO Smith installed. A thermal expansion test showed that the water pressure rose to 97 psi when the tank was increasing in temperature and then seemed to level off at that point. A thermal expansion was not installed as it\'s not required in Shawnee and the maintenance was not wanted.
